La anorexia, bulimia, estrés, depresión, infecciones de transmisión sexual, así como el aumento de embarazos no deseados en la mujer adolescente, son algunas de las enfermedades más recurrentes entre las jóvenes que recurren a hospitales públicos.
La doctora Xóchitl Valenzuela González, directora del Hospital General de Zona número 8 del IMSS en Ensenada, explicó que el estilo de vida actual, las modas y el acelerado ritmo de competitividad, influyen negativamente en el sano desarrollo de las jóvenes, porque repercuten en su salud y aspecto físico.
Estos problemas son consecuencia de la vida moderna y desencadenan complicaciones graves de salud en la adolescencia, la etapa más importante del desarrollo.
Es importante la comunicación en el núcleo familiar para evitar influencias negativas entre las jóvenes, particularmente por el boom de los trastornos de la alimentación como anorexia y bulimia que generan anemia, estrés, migraña, depresión y en ocasiones, llevan al suicidio.
Una adolescente con problemas en su alimentación que no es atendida adecuadamente, corre el riesgo de padecer enfermedades cardiovasculares, cálculos renales, osteopenia y osteoporosis.
Otro mal de los tiempos modernos es que las jovencitas han adoptado hábitos como fumar y beber alcohol, que tradicionalmente se relacionan con los varones. A temprana edad, el tabaquismo afecta el desarrollo de los pulmones, proceso que concluye entre los 16 y 18 años de edad.
De acuerdo con el Sector Salud, en el país hay poco más de 14 millones de fumadores, y de esa cifra, un millón son jóvenes menores de 18 años de edad.
La súbita pérdida de peso en las jóvenes afecta gravemente su sistema metabólico al disminuir los electrolitos, bajar el índice de glucosa y descompensar el nivel de triglicéridos.
Respecto al embarazo adolescente, es un problema de salud pública, a pesar de los programas de planificación familiar y educación sexual. Es de alto riesgo porque conlleva peligro de aborto e incidencia de preclampsia. Las jóvenes toman la píldora del día siguiente como un método de rutina, cuando ésta debe considerarse sólo para una situación de emergencia excepcional.
Utilizar preservativo es un método ideal con dos fines: prevenir embarazo y padecimientos de transmisión sexual. Sin embargo, va en aumento el número de adolescentes con infecciones del cuello del útero y la vagina, así como enfermedades inflamatorias pélvicas severas, presencia de papiloma y esterilidad.
Hay otras patologías propias de la adolescencia, como los trastornos menstruales, ciclos irregulares, retrasos, sangrados abundantes, dolor menstrual, síndrome premenstrual y dolor en los senos.
También puede presentarse la mastopatía fibroquística, enfermedad benigna secundaria a los cambios del tejido mamario a sus propias hormonas, provocada por consumir refrescos oscuros y dietas con abundantes conservadores.
